DSL DE meets DigiHealthDay in 2023 – and now DSL DE goes DigiHealthDay 2024 – about a first date and what happened!

When Digital Health Experts meets the “other side” means Patient Experts, then a very interesting dialogue starts. Experts don’t know that much about the patients what their needs are. And Patients are not informed properly about digital health and what this industry does. Very often they are in touch with the solutions for the first time, once the tools are entering the market. Sometimes the tools meet the needs, sometimes the tools were developed without or just a little knowledge of the so-called end user.  It is necessary to talk about literacy. Health literacy in general but also the “patient literacy” the experts needs and the “digital and data literacy” patients and citizens need to understand digital health and all the themes around this main theme.

“We must meet each other and we have to know the perspective of the others”, Birgit Bauer, Founder and Project Coordinator of Data Saves Lives Germany (DSL DE) as she decided to become a part of the DigiHealthDay-2023 for the first time. “We have to learn from the experiences others have made and we have to bring the different stakeholder groups together to have one dialogue about digital health and how to integrate it into our daily lives in a valuable way.”

Therefore, Birgit Bauer reached out to Prof. Georgi Chaltikyan, Program Head, Master of Digital Health (MDH) at Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT), European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI), and the Founder and Chief Organizer of DigiHealthDay. They discussed what could help the students and experts to understand the user perspective and also to see possible needs when they start to run own projects in the area of digital health.

Ihno Fokken, Communication Expert (Friesische Freiheit) for DSL DE and Founder and Projectcoordinator Birgit Bauer at the DigiHealthDay 2023

In November 2023 Team Data Saves Lives Germany traveled to Pfarrkirchen to meet a great group of international experts, students and politicians to discuss digital health solutions, frameworks like the EHDS and also possibilities to collaborate across countries to learn and to adapt new solutions or ideas for other countries. It was a great experience for us, as we talked the first time in front of students and experts about patient communities and the skills patients have and how to involve them actively in the development of projects to make digital tools easy to use and help patients in a very meaningful way.  It was also a premiere, as we presented the “DSL DE Logbuch” for the first time to a big group. We received lots of positive feedback, questions and ideas. Especially the curiosity of the students and experts from other countries was brilliant to see and created a wonderful foundation for discussions and information exchange. To say it short: We came to see and left as a member of the DigiHealthDay Family.

As a member of the great DigiHealthDay Family we are very pleased to announce that we were asked to become an official partner of the DigiHealthDayS-2024 and this is special for us as we will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the DigiHealthDay. Additionally, Birgit Bauer became a member of the advisory board of DigiHealthDay to support the team behind the event with information, experience and ideas for the program.

And of course we asked Prof. Chaltikyan about the DigiHealthDay:

Who had the idea? Who are the founders?

The idea of DigiHealthDay (DHD) initiated by Prof. Georgi Chaltikyan, who, supported by the leadership of ECRI & THD, wanted to initiate the creation of a platform for upskilling /re-skilling a wider audience in healthcare with a series of workshops and guest lectures and bring all stakeholders together to a neutral point to learn, educate, discuss and collaborate. With Prof. Horst Kunhardt as Scientific Chair and Prof. Dipak Kalra as International Chair, the idea blossomed into an annual series of events ending in an International Scientific Symposium in November. Initially started as an in-person event, the onset of COVID-19 prompted a transition to an online series, attracting participation from global stakeholders. After the pandemic, we embraced a hybrid format, paving the way for DHD to evolve into a premier platform for learning from regional and international experts, improving industry collaboration, and serving as a  ground for all stakeholders.

What is the aim?
The aim of DigiHealthDay is to serve as a premier international platform for fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation in the field of Digital Health eduction, R&D, and networking. DHD aims to bring together professionals, researchers, students, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to discuss the latest advancements, trends, and challenges in Digital Health.  By facilitating networking opportunities, showcasing cutting-edge research, and promoting interdisciplinary dialogue, DHD strives to advance the adoption and implementation of digital technologies in healthcare for the betterment of individuals and communities worldwide. DHD-2023 had the honour to invite many new partners and a among them was the most important stakeholder ‘the patient’, represented by Data Saves Life Germanythus bringing DHD closer to citizens.

Why should people be there?
People from different fields like academia, healthcare, business, students, patients, and the public are welcome to attend DigiHealthDay (DHD). It's a great chance to share research, talk about different topics, learn about digital health, promote products/services worldwide, connect with experts, and see how healthcare is changing. Plus, they can publish their research, win prizes, and join the global digital health community.
